Festival Of World Theatre
Local, Indian troupes stage plays today
The thirteen-day long theatre festival featuring world theatre will begin today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Arranged by Mohakal Natya Sampraday, the festival is commencing from today with the staging of two plays. The local troupe Nagarik Natyangan will stage Pushi Biral O Ekjon Prokrito Manush at the National Theatre Hall and the Kolkata based theatre troupe Anik will stage Adventure Kare Koy at the Experimental Theatre Hall.
Directed by Lucky Enam, Pushi Biral O Ekjon Prokrito Manush is a translation of the radio play ‘The Pussycat and the Expert Plumber’ written by the American playwright Arthur Miller, translated by Proity Huq.
Set against the backdrop of the Billington city, the imaginary play features a cat named Tom, owned by George and Adily Beekar, suddenly starts speaking like a man. The political satire shows how Tom manipulates the key personalities of the city and participates in the Mayoral poll of the city. Tom’s conspiracy is unveiled when Sam, the plumber, finds out the scheme.
Anik’s production Adventure Kare Koy is a comic play. The play is written by Amalesh Chakraborthy and directed by Moloy Biswas.
The festival will be formally inaugurated by the worldwide president of International Theatre Institute Ramendu Majumdar as the chief guest, and thespians Mamunur Rashid, Nasir Uddin Yusuff, Sara Zaker, M Hamid and Liaquat Ali Lucky will also be present as special guests at the inauguration.
A mime show and dance recitals will also be presented as part of the inaugural session before the staging of the plays.
The thirteen-day festival will stage a total of 38 plays that will end on September 30.
