Street music is gaining popularity among the youths of the port city, Chittagong. The music platform titled Cheragi 1Hour Open Street Music and Café, initiated by the local music buffs, takes place every other Friday for duration of one hour, near an intersection in Chittagong drawing a huge public response.
A large gathering was seen at its 34th show, which took place on September 13 where songs of various musical bands were presented by the local singers at the Cheragi intersection.
Cheragi 1 Hour was initiated with a call for art movement to build humanism among the people living in an era of profit making with a blind thirst for mundane achievements, said Sharmin Rahman, coordinator of this platform.
‘It is through music that we protest every injustice done to the people; our last event was dedicated to Felani, who was killed by the Indian Border Security Force, and protested against the inhuman verdict given by the court,’ Sharmin Rahman told New Age. Youths possessing the dignity of humanism are now finding their voice and promoting them is one of the main purposes of Cheragi 1 Hour, she added.
Saimon Shai, a university student, comes to the Cheragi intersection and contributes to the cause, at the same time gets rid of his weariness by listening to the refreshing songs.
Many youths like Shai eagerly wait for the day as this platform is by the youth and for the youth, the organizers opt to say.
