The Bangladesh Olympic Association executive committee has decided in principle to terminate its director general, Colonel (Retd) Wali Ullah, top BOA officials confirmed after an executive committee meeting on Tuesday. The decision was taken with the consent of BOA president General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan after a regular executive committee meeting. The decision to fire Wali was made because of allegations of misuse of power, financial corruption, unlawful activities and misbehaviour with BOA officials during his eight years in the job, said an official
‘Misuse of power, unethical activity, autocracy and misbehavior are the main reasons for the decision. The decision was taken after everyone agreed in principle,’ BOA vice-president Mizanur Rahman Khan Manu said on Tuesday.
‘The decision will be implemented as soon as possible,’ he added.
The decision was re-confirmed by another BOA vice-president, who said on the condition of anonymity that most of the sports federations’ officials had made complaints about Wali to the secretary general, Syed Shahed Reza.
‘The officials of the federations had repeatedly said that Wali misbehaved with them and never cared about them for the last five to six years, which made the federation officials angry for many days. They put their complaints to the current secretary general after he was elected April this year,’ said the vice president.
Sources said that Wali 33 months’ salary as compensation but BOA officials dismissed this claim
`I heard that it was included in the administrative manual which Wali created himself but that was not approved in any general assembly.’
Wali was appointed chief operating officer in 2005 and later served as the chief executive officer before becoming the director general.
