A Chittagong court on Tuesday sentenced three people to death for raping a national minority girl. Acting judge Md Rejaul Karim of tribunal-2 for prevention of children and women oppression handed them the sentence. The three convicted are Kamal Uddin alias Juel, 22, Suman Robi Das, 18, and Md Iqbal Hossen, 20. The trio is from Rangunina upazila in Chittagong.
Additional public prosecutor advocate MA Naser Chowdhury said the allegation against the perpetrators was proved beyond doubt after deposition of witnesses and evidence produced before the court.
According to the case filed in this connection, it was known that the girl belonging to Marma community lived at Shearbukka Para of Kaokali upazila in Rangamati.
She was tempted by some youths in the name of giving job and they brought her in the port city on November 8 in 2011 where they kept the girl confined at Shamsu Mansion of Sholosohor area in the port city and raped her for three days.
The girl managed to flee on November 12 and filed a case with the Rangunia police station.
