Grameen-Uniqlo, a social business initiative of Japanese clothing chain Fast Retailing Company Limited, on Friday opened its third store in the capital, offering quality, comfortable and affordable clothing. Grameen-Uniqlo chief operating officer Tadahiro Yamaguchi inaugurated the new store at Kakoli, Banani offering ‘ultimate shopping experience for its valued customers’.
The company will also open a similar store today at Paltan of the capital bringing the total number of Grameen-Uniqlo stores in Bangladesh to four.
In the first phase, two stores were opened in the city’s New Elephant Road and Banassree areas that feature Uniqlo’s signature ‘beauty in hyper practicality’ – tailored to the specific needs of Bangladesh.
While inaugurating the store, Tadahiro Yamaguchi said: ‘We’re extremely excited to open our new chain store in prime area of Banani. I believe this store will tremendously help us to attract a strong customer base of the area.’
This store will create an excellent opportunity for the youth to buy quality products at a very affordable price, he added.
Grameen-Uniqlo produces the collection in Bangladesh using locally sourced materials, providing highly practical items — made by locals, for locals.
In 2010, Grameen-Uniqlo began producing quality, comfortable clothing in Bangladesh at affordable prices, for local economically disadvantaged communities.
The initiative is one aspect of Fast Retailing’s long-term commitment to address poverty, hygiene, the environment, and educational and gender inequality in the rapidly developing nation.
Grameen-Uniqlo began with door-to-door sales in farming villages — offering affordable, quality clothing to people living below the poverty line.
Through the new stores in Dhaka, Grameen-Uniqlo creates local jobs and offers customers in Bangladesh’s capital quality, comfortable, and affordable clothing.
