A film festival featuring the works of Bangladeshi female filmmakers will begin at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Sunday, declared the organisers at a press conference on Thursday at the academy’s seminar room.
The festival, which will be jointly organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Moviyana Film Society, will feature short films, documentaries and feature films created from 1972 till date by the twenty four selected female filmmakers. In total of thirty two films, among which eight are feature films and the rest are short films and documentaries, will be screened at the National Art Plaza auditorium.
The orgganisers added that organising a festival on female filmmakers is really rare not only in Bangladesh but across the world. The festival will definitely encourage more and more women to make films. They also hope that the festival will help to form some sort of association among the female filmmakers as it will bring them under one roof.
The organisers also informed that an honorary crest will be presented to the female filmmakers at the inauguration ceremony which will be held at the auditorium of National Art Plaza of the academy.
The crests will be given out by the noted sculptor Ferdousi Priyobhasini.
Belayet Hossai Mamun president of Moviyana Film Society; Sarah Ara Mahmud director of film and theatre department of the academy; Professor Sabrina Sultana the chief of jury board of the film selection committee; and others were present at the press conference.
The organisers also informed that there will be three shows – at 3:00pm, 5:00pm and 7:00pm – on each festival day. The festival will be open for everybody.
