The 65th founding anniversary of the Dhaka University Alumni Association was observed on Saturday with much festivity and enthusiasm.
Several hundred former students took part in the programmes drawn up by the association to mark the day. DU vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique and DUAA president Rakibuddin Ahmed inaugurated the daylong programme by hoisting the DUAA and the national flags. They also released dozens of pigeons in front of the DUAA floor at the senate building in the morning.
DU former VC Emajuddin Ahmed, cultural affairs minister Abul Kalam Azad and DUAA leaders were also present.
Later, the former students brought out a colourful procession on the campus. They marched in procession to Raju Memorial Sculpture at TSC after parading different roads at the university.
Formerly known as Dhaka University Old Boys Association, the DUAA was established on September 24 in 1949.
