The police recovered the body of a housewife from her house at Provatibagh under the Khilgaon police station in the capital at about 11:45am on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sonia Akhter Chhabi, 32, wife of AKM Mahfuzul Haque of the area. Quoting neighbours and family members, the police said that Sonia cut her veins and later hanged herself from the ceiling fan.
The victim’s uncle, Harisul Isalm, however, alleged that it as a murder and said Mahfuz had been demanding money from Sonia’s family for last few months that worsened their nine-year married relationship.
The Khilgaon police subinspector Susankar Pal said that they recovered the body that had deep wounds on both veins of the hands.
The body was hanging from the ceiling by a sari, he added.
‘The body did not have suicide marks,’ he said.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The police arrested the victim’s husband AKM Mahfuzul Haque and his brother Piash in the connection.
