Jyoti shares Puja memories
Popular TV actress, Jyotika Jyoti has successfully ventured into the world of films. Jyoti looks back at her childhood days
when Puja spelt undiluted fun:
“As a child, I used to celebrate Durga Puja at my mamabari (maternal uncle’s home) in Kishoreganj. We eagerly awaited Puja as it was a day of unlimited fun. I used to relish the sweetmeats, particularly ‘payesh’ at Puja time. I remember those days fondly.
“Of course there was the excitement of getting new clothes. My sister and I would wear identical dresses gifted by uncle when we went visiting. Actually, I was very shy during my childhood, but Puja days would make me excited.
“We enjoyed ourselves during the days of Ashtami and Dashami when several guests visited our uncle’s home and we chatted along with them.
“Later, we celebrated Durga Puja at our hometown in Mymensingh where we also enjoyed various programmes chalked out in the district to celebrate the festival. Many people from remote areas visited Puja mandaps of the town during those days.
“For me, Puja meant a get together and a happy time together.
“This year also, I bought some bright new dresses. Though I prefer wearing saris during the festival, this year I will wear a salwar kameez. My family members have already done their shopping. I extend my good wishes to everyone this Puja.”
