Artistes of Shadhona are practicing dedicatedly for the last minute preparation of the troupe’s upcoming production Champaboti, which is based on Jasimuddin’s classic Beder Meye.
Adapted by eminent poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq, the dance drama will be premiered on Friday evening at the Experimental Theatre Hall of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.The artistes are practicing with full set up of the innovative sound and special effects everyday at the rehearsal room of the academy.
Champaboti is all about women, and the strength and courage with which they deal with adversity of life.
Narrating the tragic life of three rural women named Champa, Maleka and Asmai, Syed Shamsul Haq’s adaptation features the interactions between the wandering snake charmer community and the orthodox villagers of Bengal.
Director of the experimental production Shabbir Ahmed Khan Biju has incorporated various dance forms like Jhumur, Bihu, Pata, Chhau of Purulia and Mayurbhanj and Kalaripayettu of Kerala.
The production also includes multimedia projection and innovative music and light effects, said a press release.
