The victorious Bangladesh Under-19 team received a cash incentive of Tk 10 lakh from the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday after they returned home with a 4-3 series win over their West Indies counterparts. The Junior Tigers’ skipper Mehedy Hasan requested the BCB to include match-fee for them while giving a speech at the greeting ceremony after which BCB president Nazmul Hasan came up with the announcement.
The Junior Tigers received a tiring welcome at the Sahara-BCB National Academy as they had to wait for several hours after their 54-hour journey for the BCB president Nazmul Hasan to meet them.
‘There is no match-fee because the line-up of the players of the Under-19 side is not permanent as it changes with passing days as they get older,’ Nazmul told the
udience at the Sahara-BCB National Academy on Thursday.
The victorious Bangladesh Under-19 side will look to keep the momentum going after their 4-3 series win over the West Indies U-19s in Guyana when they take on the same opponents in a reciprocal series at home in December.
The U-19 side is expected to begin a seven-match series against the West Indies U-19s on December 1 before heading to the United Arab Emirates for the Under-19 Asia Cup, where they will take on Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Afghanistan in the group stage.
The tournament will give the Junior Tigers a chance to get accustomed to the conditions in the UAE, which will also host the Under-19 World Cup beginning on February 8, 2014.
‘It was a very fruitful tour, which will help us grow as a team in the coming days,’ said captain Mehedy Hasan.
‘We started believing in our own ability and will hopefully go from strength to strength from now onwards,’ he added.
