A 52-year-old physician was hacked to death in his chamber, Moitri Nursing Home, he owned at Phulbarigata under Khanjahan Ali police station in Khulna city Sunday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Gouranga Chandra Das, 47, son of the late Dinbandhu Das of Goshgati village under Dighalia upazila in Khulna. He was a life member of Bangladesh Medical Association.
Assistant sub-inspector Kamal Hossin, duty officer of Khanjahan Ali police station, quoting the locals, said the sacked manager of Gouranga’s nursing home, Rasel, entered his chamber at around 3:00pm and hacked him with a machete, leaving him dead on the spot.
He said they came to know that Rasel, while serving as the manager of the nursing home, developed an extra-marital relation with a nurse and when Gouranga came to know it, he sacked both of them about a month ago.
Kamal said that the termination might have caused the killing.
He said that police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
The police official said no case was so far lodged.
The Khulna unit of BMA, in a statement signed by its president Md Rafiqul Haque Bablu and general secretary Sheikh Md Akhteruzzaman, protested at the killing and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for the killer.
