Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s film Television won the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema award at the 19th Kolkata International Film Festival.
Eminent Indian filmmaker Gautam Ghose handed over the award to the producer of the film Faridur Reza Sagar at the star-studded closing ceremony of the eight-day festival on Sunday at the Science City Auditorium in Kolkata, Pashchimbanga. The NETPAC Award is given at selected international film festivals to promote Asian cinema by spotlighting exceptional films and discovering new talents.
This year seven films from the Asian countries, including Television, participated in the NETPAC Award segment in the Kolkata festival that began on November 10.
Television was screened at two cinemas during the festival: at the Rabindrasadan on November 15 and again at the Eastern Cultural Centre Auditorium in Saltlake on the following day.
Kolkata dwellers enjoyed the film and praised it, a said a press release sent by Impress Telefilm, the production house of Television.
Chanchal Chowdhury, Mosharraf Karim, Tisha and others perform in the comedy that features how television set as a device changes the conservative mindset of the people living in a remote village of Bangladesh.
The film will also represent Bangladesh at the upcoming Oscars.
