Teachers, students and staff at Jahangirnagar University under the banner of Shikkhak-Shikkharthi-Karmakarta-Karmachari-Oikya Forum on Sunday declared that they would resist the election to the Jahangirnagar University Central Students Union scheduled for January 02, 2014.
A large number of teachers, students and officers and employees of the university formed a human chain in front of administration building at noon protesting against alleged irregularities in the election.
Protesters also demanded immediate removal of vice-chancellor Anwar Hossain and immediate announcement of schedule for the election to a vice-chancellor panel.
They claimed that, university administration wanted to declare their favourable candidates elected to the students union as they already allowed the Mphil and PhD researchers to contest the polls.
Two pro-vice-chancellors MA Matin and Afsar Ahmed and registrar Abu Bakkar Seddique, meanwhile, were kept confined in their offices for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday by the agitating teachers demanding election to vice-chancellor panel.
Anwar Hossain remained absent on the campus since Wednesday for ‘illness,’ registrar Abu Bakkar said.
The agitating teaches, however, alleged that Anwar was staying out of the campus although he was taking classes at North South university.
The teachers also warned Anwar not to enter the campus.
They also continued to enforce all-out strike and infinite sit-in in front of administration building demanding removal of the vice-chancellor.
Coordinator of the platform, Hanif Ali said, ‘The president, Abdul Hamid, also the university chancellor, directed the university authorities to hold VC-panel election immediately to end the stalemate of the university, but the vice-chancellor is out to hold the JUCSU election.’
