Lokonayok staged on the third day
Prangonemor staged Lokonayok on the third day of the ongoing week-long theatre festival at the Music and Dance Centre Hall of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Sunday.
Prangonemor is celebrating its tenth founding anniversary with this festival where the troupe will stage all its eight productions.
The third production of the troupe Lokonayok is based on the true story of the poet and composer Mukundo Das, who contributed to the spread of Swadeshi movement in rural Bengal though his performances.
The play, written and directed by Ananta Hira, features how the bard became the hero of the masses by enacting a bold stance to create an anti-British sentiment through music and performances.
Ramij Raju as the adolescent Mukundo Das and Shishir Rahman as the adult were brilliant in their acting.
‘The magnetic character of Mukundo Das inspired me to produce the play,’ said Ananta Hira, the director.
Many audience enjoyed the play. ‘The story of the play is very touchy. It reminds us of the struggles people had to undergo in the British period,’ said Badhan Ahmed, an audience. ‘The actors were superb in portraying the story of the play,’ said another audience Rahul Saha.
