Participants in a discussion in Barisal on Tuesday called for taking forward a disability-inclusive development agenda and human rights for all. The programme was arranged to observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities with the theme ‘break barriers, open doors: for an inclusive society and development for all’ at Social Service Directorate ground in the city. On the occasion, a procession marched from Ashwini Kumar Hall to Social Service Directorate office, followed by a discussion meeting and cultural programme at the directorate office ground.
The Social Service Directorate in collaboration with ARDRID-CRP (Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed) organised the programme.
Mosharraf Hossain, deputy director of Social Service Directorate, presided over the programme participated in by different government and non-government organisations, city elites and representatives of people with disabilities.
The speakers called for practical and concrete action to include disability in all aspects of development, as well as to further the participation of people with disabilities in social life and development on the basis of equality.
They also stressed highlighting progress and obstacles in implementing disability-sensitive policies, as well as promoting public awareness to break barriers and open doors for an inclusive society for all.
