A Bangladeshi student Sumaiya Mamun has won the third prize at the Churchill Photography Competition 2013 at the University of Cambridge in UK.
Sumaiya’s another photograph was selected as one of the top 20 photographs in the competition.
The annual photography competition allows the university members to participate in the competition by submitting two photographs from each participant. This year’s theme of the competition was Geometrical Figures around Cambridge, reads the official website of the competition.
A panel of judges selected the winners and the top 20 photos were displayed at the university library tearoom, Buttery, in a prize giving ceremony on November 27.
Sumaiya Mamun’s photo selected as the third prize winner is a black-and-white illustration of a spiraling staircase winding up alongside a building within the campus of the university.
A teacher at the institute of nutrition and food science of Dhaka University Sumaiya Mamun, who is presently doing her PhD at the University of Cambridge, has won monetary prizes along with different gadgets as one of the top winners of the competition.
‘Participants from different countries such as the USA, China, Lithuania, and Germany took part in the competition. My winning a prize in such a competition may work as an inspiration to other photographers,’ said Sumaiya Mamun through an email.
