The Jahangirnagar Cycling Club was launched on the university campus on Sunday. A press conference was held at the JU Journalists’ Association’s office at the university’s Teachers Students Centre on the occasion. The club started its formal journey on the campus with the motto ‘bliss on wheels’ to make cycling popular as a physical exercise. The club started its activities on the campus on September 1, 2013 with more than 30 members to inspire women cyclists and to promote safe cycling.
A committee was formed to run the club with history department assistant professor Anisa Parveen Joly as president and geography and environment department Masters student Rasif Iqbal as secretary.
The club has planned to organise a victory procession on December 16 visiting the adjacent tourist spots on cycle.
The organisation also raised a four-point demand to the university administration including limiting motor speed in the campus area, installing separate stands for cycles and
motor cars on the campus, ensuring safe cycling and installing cycle stands at all dormitories and faculties.
