Syed Abdur Rouf, Officer-in-Charge of Chandgaon Police Station said that a racket of human traffickers gathered the people at Al-Sakira Hotel in Chittagong from various parts of the country alluring them to take to Malaysia and realised a huge amount of money from them. “These people were scheduled to board a ship or trawler at any moment on Sunday. Acting on a tip off, we raided the hotel and rescued 32 people around 6:00am”, OC Rauf said adding that the police arrested two traffickers in connection with the incident.
“The arrestees, identified as Md Mujubur Rahman and Jafar Alam, confessed during an interrogation that they had a plan to take them (rescued people) to a ship or trawler to sail for Malayasia from Cox’s Bazar. As part of the plan, the arrestees received the 32 people from City Gate area in the city and took them to the hotel”, added the OC.
