All criticism against me mere propaganda: Corrupt politicians released from jail thru’ loopholes of law
The former chief of army staff Gen (Retd) Moeen U Ahmed, who is now in the United States of America (USA), claimed that he was the only general who stood beside the people during the crisis moment and kept his promises to the nation in preserving democracy.
Brushing aside all allegations against him by political leaders of the country, he made it clear that all these were merely propaganda to tarnish his image.
“What sorts of politics is that ,” he wanted to know while giving an interview with the New York based weekly ‘ Ajkal Patrika’ recently, according to reports of News World received here yesterday from New York.
“I have served the nation and I am still trying to do so and hope to continue also in future,” he said while referring to his commitment to the caretaker government for the return of the country to the democratic rule.
“We tried our best in returning the country towards healthy politics and put the country on the right track of democratic rule as well as by issuing National Identity Card by the Election Commission (EC) ,” he said.
He said the army played an important role in conducting a free, fair and transparent election in the country.
Replying to a question on the release of detained persons, who were arrested on graft charges during the caretaker government as part of purgation, he said,” We confined the corrupts to jail. But they got released on bail through the loopholes of law,” he said.
The former army chief said it is political game when responding to questions of cases by BNP against him. He said what he has done, he has done so for the interest of the people of Bangladesh.
He said he wants to serve the country. It is the job of all of us to work together to build the country, he said. He urged all the expatriate Bangladeshi to play responsible role against aggressive, propaganda and unpleasant programmes in the name of politics.
Replying to a question he said he did not notice any one staging demonstration in Florida when attending wedding reception of his nephew recently.
