Leading artistes presented love songs and poems in a programme to welcome spring on the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises on Thursday.
Artistes of top dance troupes of the country also performed at the programme organised by the academy.
Most of the presentations were either praise for the queen of seasons, spring, or expression of love, which is more often than not associated with the season.
Prominent singers Rafiqul Alam, Abida Sultana, Ferdous Ara, Khairul Anam Shakil, Azizur Rahman Tuhin, Mahiuzzaman Chowdhury Moyna presented songs at the programme, while recitation artiste Jayanta Chattapaddhyay recited poem.
The singer couple, Rafiqul Alam and Abida Sultana, entertained the audience with two popular playback numbers.
They presented yesteryear’s love song Ek Nadir-i Uzan Bhati and Jetuku Samai Tumi Thaka Kachhe. For the hundreds of audience, who were in a festive mood and colourfully dressed, the songs were pleasing springtime gift.
Famous Nazrul singer Ferdous Ara also moved the audience with her signature presentation of two romantic Nazrul songs — Aj Nishithe Abhisar and Amay Nahego Bhalobasa.
Noted Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil presented Kuhu Kuhu Koyelia, which expresses a lovelorn lover’s request to the spring bird so that it does not sing of love.
Tagore singer Mahiuzzaman Chowdhury Moyna did not present any Tagore song; he rather sang a yesteryear’s romantic song — Tumi Ki Emni Kore Thakbe Dure — which the audience listened to, captivated.
Another Tagore singer Azizur Rahman Tuhin presented Tagore’s spring-based song- Madhura Basanta Esechhe. Emerging singer Mamun Zahid Khan was also marvelous in presenting old day romantic song Tumi Sundar Jadi Na.
Seasoned recitation artiste Jayanta Chattapaddhyay recited a very recent poem titled Panchalike Arjun by Indian poet Maitree Bandopaddhyay. The poem depicted Arjun’s, one of the Pandabas, conflicted love towards Droupadi.
Last, but not the least, was the spectacular dance recitals by top troupes which intersected the presentations of leading artistes.
Nrityanandan artistes presented their recital synchronised with spring song Dol Phagune Dol Legechhe, Dhriti Nrityanalay artistes presented a Manipuri dance synchronised with Ora Akarane Chanchal, Dibya Sangskritik Sangathan artistes performed with love song Prithibir Jata Sukh Jata Bhalobasa.
A few chorus renditions of spring songs also coloured the programme.
Veteran artist Mustafa Monwar was present at the programme as chief guest.
