In the realm of art, what counts more is perhaps the culmination of artistic passion and natural flair, rather than academic degree or age. A good piece of artwork can emerge through artistic endeavour of a child or an eighty year old.
The art aficionados of the country themselves can find evidence for the fact by visiting Dhaka Art Centre at Dhanmondi in the capital that is currently showcasing 76 pieces of arresting artworks by 38 students from eight private universities.
The students are demonstrating their capability of creating praiseworthy paintings at the week-long event titled 2nd Inter-Private University Art Exhibition, organised by American International University Bangladesh Arts Club.
The paintings are vibrant in colour and vivid with depiction of diverse subject matters, although nature seems to be the dominant theme. The experiments have been performed in various mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, glass painting, pencil, pen, etc.
AIUB student Rubel Nayan has created a realistic portrait of internationally acclaimed local artist Shahabuddin Ahmed in his untitled acrylic painting.
Women and other elements of nature such as birds and flowers, all in harmony have been presented in a pen sketch bySamira, a student of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.
Fariza Nayar, a student of BRAC University, has depicted a beautiful lotus flower in her oil on canvas. ULAB student Fabliha Abonti, on the other hand, has craftily illustrated a peacock perched on a branch of tree, using glass as her canvas.
Nature has also appeared in AIUB student Saima Tasnim›s landscape watercolour painting, which captures a group of spotted dear grazing in a forest.
Other universities whose students are taking part in the exhibition are–University of Development Alternatives, North South University, United International University, Santo Mariam University and Independent University Bangladesh.
The president of AIUB Arts Club and also an aspiring artist himself, Mohammad Asaduzzzaman Oni informed New Age that the club first organised the 1st Inter-Private University Art Exhibition in 2012. ‘Through the exhibition, we have made an attempt to forge a strong bond among the students of private universities,’ added Oni.
