Bangladesh National Museum has showcased memorabilia of 24 distinguished personalities who have contributed to the country in diverse fields.
The exhibition is a part of the museum’s ‘Oral History Project’, which seeks to display memorabilia, audio and video records of more than one hundred renowned and unparalleled personalities born in the country.
The project is intended to enlighten and encourage the young generations to know the best of their predecessors and to walk on the path they have paved by following their footsteps.
In the first phase of the project, memorabilia, audio and video records of 24 persons have been displayed in a two-week exhibition.
Each of the entries at the exhibition has a large photograph of the individual, a short description containing the person’s biography and contributions, and some memory tokens of the person.
Among the persons is Binod Bihari Chowdhury (1911-2013), who was a revolutionary and a veteran member of the civil society of Bangladesh. He is mostly known for his participation in the Chittagong Armed Raid to uproot the British colonial rule from the Indian subcontinent in 1930.
There is poet-activist Begum Sufia Kamal (1911-1999). Kamal’s writings, spectacles and a sari are on display too.
National professor Abdur Razzak’s (1914-1999) memorabilia is also on display. Razzak’s handwriting, his glasses, a coat, pen and others are on display.
Master artist Quamrul Hassan’s (1921-1988) brushes and pencils are also on display at the exhibition.
The exhibition also showcases memorial tokens of eminent personalities like Jahanara Imam, MN Huda, Abu Sayeed Chowdhury, Nur Jahan Begum, Muhammad Nasiruddin, AR Mallick, Abdul Matin, Basanti Guha Thakurata, Sardar Fazlul Karim, Qayyum Chowdhury, Laila Arjumand Banu, Sanjida Khatun, Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Rangalal Sen, Mustafa Noor Ul Islam, Anupam Sen and others.
School students, at whom the exhibition is primarily aimed at, are showing interest through their attendance. Nurun Nahar Shila, a class IX student, said, ‘The exhibition lets us learn about some important persons of the country whom we should know and respect’.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the exhibition on March 22. It will be open for all from 11am to 7pm till April 5.
