The travel cost for each Malaysia bound worker has been further reduced to Tk 24,000, officials said Sunday. The recruitments would take place under government to government arrangements, they said. Thy said that 120 workers are due to leave for Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday and 124 others on Thursday by Biman paying the lowest ever fare per person. Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training officials told New Age that the airfare was lowered further through negotiations with Biman.
In December, the fare per worker was reduced to Tk28,500 from Tk33,500, they said.
BMET officials working at Malaysia Cell said that out of 10,000 workers selected for Malaysian plantation jobs 3,352 had earlier left for Malaysia under the G2G arrangements.
And until now, 135 selected workers conveyed their unwillingness to work in Malaysia, they said.
Malaysia agreed to recruit 10,000 workers from Bangladesh for its plantations through the G2G arrangement.
The two countries worked out the G2G recruitment arrangement under a memorandum of understanding signed on November 26, 2012.
Initially the MoU had set the migration cost for each worker at Tk 40,000, BMET officials said.
The travel cost for each worker was later lowered to Tk 33,500 after the Malaysian Airlines agreed to charge less fare, they said.
About five lakh Bangladeshis are currently working in Malaysia, according to BMET.
