Dahlia Ahmed’s commendable recitation of classic Tagore poems and melodious performance of Tagore songs by Indian artiste Nayan Mukherjee entertained the audience at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre
at Gulshan in the capital on Friday.
It turned out to be a Tagore extravaganza as the melody of Tagore’s songs was followed up with captivating lines from his poetry. The union of two forms of Tagore’s work created a joyful evening for the Tagore fans that came to enjoy the show.
The show began with solo presentation of timeless Tagore song Aji Ei Sondhai by Mukherjee. In harmony with Mukherjee’s singing, Dahlia presented Tagore’s moving poem Sondhya O Probhat in her mesmerising voice. Thus the two artistes picked two forms of Tagore’s work that were relative, and complimented each other.
Dahlia also presented the poems Pranomi and Rabindrasangeet, written by Dinesh Das and Nirmalendu Goon respectively as their tributes to Tagore.
The recitations and singing, accompanied with an orchestra of keyboard, tabla, esraj, guiter and sitar, left the audience deeply entertained.
The duo kept on their presentation of evergreen Tagore songs including Mor Pothikere Bujhi Enecho Ebar, Ami Hridayete Path Ketechi, Ami Path Vola Ek Pathik Esechi , Uriye Dhwaja Ovrobhedi Rathe, Jete Jete Ekla Pathe and poems like Paye Cholar Path, Asabdhan, Jhulan, Nirjharer Swapnabhongo, Udbodhan and few others.
Dahlia Ahmed ‘s presentation of Rana Thakur’s English version of Tagore’s Nirjharer Swapnabhongo was highly acclaimed by the crowd.
The duo also presented Rabindranath’s beautiful poem Aji Shrabon Ghono Gohon Mohe in duet performance along with the English translation of the poem.
