Music directors-composers Sheikh Sadi Khan and Ali Hossain were all praise for the recently demised singer Bashir Ahmed at a remembrance programme at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Sunday.
Singer Bashir Ahmed died on April 19 after a notable career spanning over five decades in the music industry.
Both Sheikh Sadi Khan and Ali Hossain recounted their experiences with Ahmed at the programme.
‘Bashir Ahmed was a complete artiste. His passion, dedication, sincerity and life-long engagement with music made him one of the most valued singers in the country’s music industry’, said Ali Hossain.
Supplementing Hossain, Khan said, ‘Bashir Ahmed possessed a golden voice. People of our generation could not but be moved by his songs’.
Bashir Ahmed was not only a prime-ranked singer; he was also a talented lyricist, composer and teacher. Many of his students
have gained immense popularity in the music industry, Kanak Chapa being the best example, said the speakers.
For the packed audience comprising of late Ahmed’s family members, friends and fans, discussion on the endeared singer was followed by a wonderful cultural show where noted and young singers presented a few of Ahmed’s popular songs.
Seasoned singer Subir Nandi was there to render Ahmed’s famous playback numbers like Amake Porate Jodi Eto Lage Bhalo and Dekona Amare Tumi Kachhe Dekona. Both the romantic-sentimental songs pleased the audience.
Among others, Dinat Jahan Munni presented Ahmed’s Kotha Bolona and Phuler Mala Poriye Dilam. Mamun Jahid Khan presented Onek Sadher Moyna Amar and Tomar Kalo Kesh Chhorale Bole.
Besides, young singers like Dithi, Mehedi and Momin also entertained the audience with Ahmed’s popular songs.
