A new reality television series titled Amrai Pari has premiered on BTV on May 12 with a view to better prepare
the country’s population in dealing with natural disasters.
The eight episode series was made by BBC Media Action.
BTV will be airing the series on every Monday at 9:30pm, while other channels will also repeat the show at 2:15 pm on Wednesdays.
The programme features three presenters Tanzir Tuhin, Shahana Rahman Shumi and Kazi Tanveer travelling from the chors(sandbars) of Kurigram to drought-afflicted Naogaon to Kuakata coastal areas and meeting communities who have adapted to changing weather conditions.
On their travels across the country, they observe how people are striving to improve their chances against climatic challenges in innovative ways. Some people in disaster stricken areas overcome insurmountable odds to protect or rebuild their homes, while others lead in inspirational ways to make changes that benefit everyone.
About the show, Charlotte Imbert, country director of BBC Media Action Bangladesh said, ‘Bangladesh is a disaster prone country and the effects of climate change are a big concern. From our research, we have seen that many Bangladeshi people are adapting to these changes by making adjustments in their own lives. Now, we want to encourage those people who are still unaware of the effects of extreme weather through the programme. ‘
