The prices of edible oil and pulses went up in the capital’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday. Traders attributed the price hike to rise in the prices of the items on the wholesale market. The prices of palm and super palm oil increased by Tk 3 a litre and the items were selling at Tk 80-Tk 85 a litre and Tk 87-Tk 88 a litre on Friday. Bottled soya bean oil price, however, decreased by Tk 5 and it was selling at Tk 550-Tk 560 a five-litre container.
Unpacked soya bean oil was retailing at Tk 114-Tk 115 a kg on the day.
The prices of gram and imported red lentil increased by Tk 5 a kilogram over the week and the items were retailing at Tk 55 a kg and Tk 85 a kg on Friday.
Zakir Hossain, a retailer at the Karwan Bazar kitchen market, told New Age that the retail price of palm oil increased a bit as the price of the item increased on the wholesale market.
He said that the demand for gram had started to increase as the month of Ramadan is nearing.
Due to the rising demand, the price of gram increased on the retail market, Zakir said.
The prices of vegetables remained stable.
Aubergine was retailing at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 30 a kg, cucumber at Tk 25 a kg, okra at Tk 30 a kg, papaya at Tk 30 a kg, carrot at Tk 50 a kg and tomato at Tk 40 a kg on Friday.
Green chilli price remained unchanged and the item was retailing at Tk 60 a kg on the day.
The price of onion remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 35 a kg over the week while the imported onion was retailing at Tk 25-Tk 28 a kg.
Potato price increased by Tk 2 a kg and the item was retailing at Tk 18-Tk 20 a kg on Friday.
The price of egg remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 28 a hali (four pieces) over the week.
Sugar price remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 a kg.
The price of garlic remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 80 a kg on Friday.
Ginger price remained high and the imported ginger was selling at Tk 220 a kg while the local one was retailing at Tk 180 a kg on Friday.
Fish prices also remained stable over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 180-Tk 300 a kg on Friday, pangas at Tk 120-Tk 150 a kg and tilapia at Tk 150-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
The price of broiler remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 140-Tk 150 a kg on Friday.
The prices of mutton and beef remained stable over the week.
Mutton was selling at Tk 420-Tk 450 a kg while beef was selling at Tk 270-Tk 280 a kg.
Despite harvesting of new crop, the prices of rice remained high on the retail market.
The fine varieties of miniket were selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 a kg while the coarse varieties were retailing at Tk 44-Tk 46 a kg on Friday.
The fine varieties of BR-28 were selling at Tk 42-Tk 44 a kg and the coarse varieties of parija were selling at Tk 38-Tk 40 a kg.
