Four local films — two full length feature films and two short films — will represent Bangladesh in the third SAARC Film Festival.
Curtain of the festival is going to be up today in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Along with Bangladesh, the remaining seven member countries will also screen four films (two full lengths and two short films) each at the six-day festival, which will end on May 25. The films will be screened under two major competition categories — full length films and short films.
Best film awards will be given for one full length and one short film. Besides, best actor and actress will also be awarded.
From Bangladesh, Tanvir Mokammel’s recently released film on the liberation war Jibandhuli and Shanewaj Cacoly’s national award winning film Uttarer Sur have been selected to compete in the full length section.
In the short film section, Fakhrul Arefin’s Al Badr and DFP’s Lokonayok Kangal Harinath will compete.
Both Jibandhuli and Uttarer Sur portray distinct characters and histories of Bangladesh.
Mokammel’s Jibandhuli is a history-based film which lays out the sufferings of Jiban, who is a traditional drummer from a minority group, in the dreadful days of the War of Independence in 1971.
On the other hand, Cacoly’s Uttarer Sur is a portrayal of sorrows of the impoverished and marginalised people of the country’s north zone.
