Grameenphone, the country’s leading telecom service provider, and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services, the national trade body for software and IT-enabled service industry, signed a memorandum of understanding to promote internet for all in the country.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony as part of the Digital World convention at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the presence of posts, telecommunications and IT minister Abdul Latif Siddique on Wednesday.
‘Internet is a crucial platform for economic and social development, and we strongly support the Government’s vision of a digital Bangladesh,’ said Grameenphone chief executive officer Vivek Sood.
BASIS president Shamim Ahsan was also present in the signing ceremony.
According to the agreement, GP and BASIS will work together to establish an annual Internet Education Day for all students and their parents, to support development and distribution of internet-based applications with a capacity to reach more than 1 million active users, and to increase the number of internet users by 10 million annually from 2014-2018, said a Grameenphone press release.
BASIS will design a 12-month activity roadmap commencing from the date of signing the MoU to fulfil the agreed ambition.
