The Bangladesh Cricket Board has at last decided to appoint a permanent chief executive officer as the post remained vacant for the last two years after the sudden demise of former CEO Manzur Ahmed on January 10, 2012. In the last BCB Board of Directors meeting on July 7, the issue of appointing a permanent CEO was discussed very seriously before giving the responsibility to BCB president Nazmul Hasan to look into the matter, who promised to solve the issue soon.
It was learnt that the acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury was the front runner for the post.
The only bar to selecting Nizamuddin came in the form of his salary structure, as the previous CEOs used to receive their salaries on contractual basis, whereas Nizamuddin draws his monthly salary as per pay scale of the board.
‘I think the president [Nazmul Hasan] will negotiate it with him. Whether he takes over or someone else gets the job is totally in president’s court,’ said a BCB director requesting anonymity.
The BCB gave the CEO’s responsibility on January 17, 2012 to then general manager Nizamuddin through an official order.
Previously, Nizamuddin had also performed the role as the acting CEO of BCB from February 2008 to August 2010 before the board appointed Manzur in September 2010.
When contacted by New Age, the acting CEO Nizamuddin said that he was ready to take any responsibility the BCB decides to put upon his shoulders.
