The Bangladesh Football Federation has decided to return to their previous two-leg format in the Bangladesh Premier League after just one season.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the BFF on Saturday following a request from the participating clubs, who had complained of too much financial burden in three-leg league.
The BFF had introduced a bizarre three-leg in the outgoing 2013-14 season at it wanted to keep the ball rolling round the year.
Under the three-leg system, the clubs had to play at least 27 league games, which they said was too much considering their financial strength.
‘We have decided to scrap the three-leg system for the next season,’ said the BFF senior vice-president Abdus Salam Mrushedi after a meeting with the Bangladesh Professional League Committee.
‘We had to make the decision considering the duration of the league. All clubs have requested us to organise it in a two-leg format.
‘Our clubs are suffering financially, which created many problems. So, we had to think about it too.’
Meanwhile, the BFF has decided to organise the Super Cup after the end of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup and a few other competitions.
Six top teams in the BPL will participate in the Super Cup, which could be held after the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship, indicated Murshedi.
The AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship is scheduled to be held from October 14 in Dhaka.
