A two-day denim expo began at The Radisson Blu Water Garden hotel in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The 2nd DenimsandJeans.com Expo has been organised aiming at showing the denim sector strength of Bangladesh and wooing overseas buyers, said a news release.
Twenty-four companies from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Germany, China and Brazil are participating in the exhibition to showcase their denim pants, fabrics and modern machinery.
Indian high commissioner Pankaj Saran inaugurated the exhibition. BGMEA president Md Atiqul Islam, BKMEA president AKM Salim Osman and BTMA president Jahangir Alamin were present on the occasion as special guests.
Different brands, buying houses, apparel entrepreneurs, fashion professionals, stakeholders and companies related to technology, chemicals, piece dyes of the industry from Europe, the USA, the UK and several Asian countries are the invitees in the event.
The event remains open for invitees from 9:30am to 6:30pm.
Sandeep Agarwal is the initiator of the show, which is named after his denim web site Denimsandjeans.com. The first such expo took place in March this year.
According to the Denimsandjeans.com web site, Bangladesh exported about 74 million pieces of denim apparel to the US and shipped around 140 million pieces of jeans to Europe in 2013.
The country was the largest exporter of men’s jeans to Europe in 2013 with 89 million pieces shipped around the world despite many odds compared to 65 million pieces exported by China in the same period.
Last year, exports of Bangladesh denim apparel surged by 11.48 per cent to the US and to the EU by more than 19.65 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier.
