Legendary writer-director Humayun Ahmed’s last film Ghetuputra Kamola is contesting with other noted films from around the world at a segment titled Exploring the Difference at the 17th International Religion Today Film Festival at Trento in Italy. The film festival, which began on October 10 and will continue till October 21, features films on religions, cultures and human life. The festival prioritizes films that depict religious and other faiths at the face of adversities.
Apart from screening films, the festival also includes seminars and special events. A source said that the festival is also running a wide array of activities on the subject at different schools in Trento. Other than Bangladesh, films from India, Israel, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, America, Serbia, Iran, Portugal, South Africa and Spain will also be featured at the festival.
Released in 2012, Ghetuputra Kamola was the winner of National awards in eight categories. A production of Impress Telefilms, Ghetuputra Kamola centres around a musical group called Ghetugaan where young boys dance in female attires in the colonial era. Soon they rise in fame, but popularity brings these artistes the unwanted trouble of landlords fancying them for perverted sexual gratification. Mamun, Tarik Anam Khan, Jayanto Chattopadhyay, Munmun Ahmed, and others have acted in the film.
Another film from Impress Telefilms, Akash Koto Durey, directed by Samia Zaman, has also been selected for screening at the Zagora Trans-Saharan International Film Festival to be held from October 20 to 25 in Morocco.
