30 Years Of Dristipat Natyday
A six-day festival begins at Shilpakala
Theatre troupe Dristipat Natyadal has organised a six-day theatre festival at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to celebrate the troupe’s 30 eventful years in the country’s theatre arena. In its 30 active years, Dristipat Natyadal has produced as many as 22 plays, along with organising workshops, seminars and other theatre related activities. Among its acclaimed productions are Raja Himadri, Hanadar, Bura Bhuter Goppo, Buddhu, Tin Purusher Matha and some others.
The festival, which features twelve plays by eleven guest troupes and the host troupe, kicked off amid colour and festivity on Sunday. Thespian Mamunur Rashid inaugurated the festival, while Ataur Rahman was present as the chief guest.
On the opening day, theatre troupe Mohakal Natya Sampraday staged its recent production Prometheus at National Theatre Hall, while Natyadhara staged Ayna Bibir Pala at Experimental Theatre Hall.
Mohakal’s Prometheus is an adaptation of Greek playwright Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound. Adapted and dramatised by Anan Zaman, the play is directed by Mostafizur Noor Imran.
In Mohakal’s Prometheus, unlike Aeschylus’, the character Promethues is endowed more with human qualities than represented as a mythical figure. Thus the play takes into its corpus the struggling mass.
On the other hand, Ayna Bibir Pala is based on a folk-tale compiled in Mymensingh Geetika. Adapted and directed by Rabiul Alam, the pala focuses on the fate and struggle of women in the medieval period. Natyadhara also presented the play in the tradition pala form where songs and narrations are vital to deliver the story.
