Bangladesh has agreed to play in an one-day international tournament in Dubai in January as part of its preparation for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2015, officials said on Wednesday.
The High Performance Unit of International Cricket Council will organise the tournament from January 10-24 to give its associate members an opportunity to prepare for the tournament.
Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have been invited to play in the tournament alongside Afghanistan, Ireland, Scotland and hosts UAE.
‘In our cricket operations committee meeting today, we have agreed to play in the tournament as we believe the tournament will also help our side before the World Cup,’ said BCB’s media committee chairman Jalal Yunus.
The matches of the tournament will be official one-day internationals, he said.
Jalal added that the cricket operations committee has rejected a proposal of Zimbabwe about playing a bilateral series in their country before the World Cup.
‘We came to know that January is a rainy season in Zimbabwe, so we did not find enough logic to send the team there before the World Cup,’ he said.
