The Bangladesh Football Federation has received the green signal from the National Sports Council to host a fund-raising musical concert at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on February 13, officials said on Saturday. The BFF was planning to host the concert for quite some time but had to wait for the NSC nod in the face of strong opposition from some other sports bodies including the Bangladesh Athletic Federation.
The BFF now handed over the rights of concert to Giro Degree Entertainment, an event management firm, who has agreed to pay Tk 2.75 crore.
The company, which said to have a plan of inviting some Bollywood celebrities to the concert, will take the entire profit in return.
The BFF has already launched a nation-wide lottery from November 10 to raise funds and the concert is believed to be another step.
‘We tried hard to get the approval and finally they [NSC] gave their consent,’ said BFF general secretary Abu Naeem Sohag.
‘We are going to sign a deal with Giro Degree Entertainment as soon as possible.’
Sohag defended the decision of hosting the concert at their main venue.
‘We saw Bangladesh Cricket Board hosted many musical programmes at the BNS. Last time they held the BCB Celebration Concert before the ICC World Twenty20.
‘But we are going to organise the concert for the betterment of the game so I think nobody can raise any question about our initiative,’ said Sohag.
