Low- and mid-priced smartphones and tablets are in high demand at the three-day Grameenphone Smartphone and Tab Expo 2014 that began at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city’s Agargaon on Friday. The exposition is also hosting seminars on latest technologies and gaming contests. International brands like Samsung, Asus, Acer, Lenovo, Huawei are showcasing their latest devices beside local brands like Symphony and Okapia.
Local importers like DX Generation, Gadget Gang 7 and RN Tech are also participating in the fair with popular brands like OnePlus One, Xiaomi and Ainol.
‘Our mid- and low-priced products are getting the most attention from customers,’ said Shariful Alam, a sales manager at Samsung.
He said Samsung Duos and Star Pro were selling the most among the devices put on display at their stall.
Baig Abdullah Al-Mahim, a sales officer at Asus, said that products ranging from Tk 15,000 to Tk 20,000 were the top selling items of Asus brand.
‘Our Fonopad FE375 which costs Tk 16,500 is the top selling product,’ he said.
A salesperson at Gadget Gang 7 told New Age on Saturday that Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G worth Tk 15,000 was the top selling product at their stall.
Customers said such exposition gave lucrative discounts on different products which was the main reason for large turnout.
‘I was planning to buy a tab for few months and when I heard about the exposition I decided to buy it from the fair as I would get discount here,’ said ASM Samad who works at a private company.
He said he bought a RN Tab at Tk 4,000 with a Tk 1,500 discount.
Samia Sharmin, a student of Jahangirnagar University, said she visited the exposition to buy a smartphone hoping to get discount.
‘There are huge verities of products in the fair and whatever your price range is there is a product for you,’ she said.
The participating brands are offering gift items and discounts on some of their selective products in the exhibition.
