At least six people including a policeman were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Bogra, Barisal and Narsingdi on Friday. Heavy vehicles hit lighter vehicles in every incident that left three people dead in Bogra while one was killed in Barisal and two in Narsingdi.
Our correspondent in Barisal reported that a policeman, Munshi Md Jewel, 35, was killed and his wife, Mahinur Begum, 30, sustained critical injuries after a speedy truck hit their motorbike on the Barisal-Dhaka highway in Kashipur area in the city Friday afternoon.
The deceased, hailing from Jhalakathi, used to work at the armed police battalion in Barisal while his wife Mahinur was a nurse of Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said the Barisal airport police station officer-in-charge Shaheduzzaman.
Witnesses and police said Jewel was riding a motorcycle, his wife behind him, on way to his workplace at airport police station, starting from Goriar Par area.
The truck hit them from behind when he slowed down in front of a speed-breaker at Kashipur Bazar. Both of them were rushed to the SBMCH, where Jewel died after a while and Mahinur was still fighting with injuries.
The police failed to arrest the driver but seized the truck.
New Age correspondent in Narsingdi reported that two people were killed and three others injured in a road traffic accident at Kararchar area on Dhaka–Sylhet highway on Friday.
Police said the accident occurred at about 9:30am when a Sylhet-bound bus from Dhaka hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw from behind, leaving CNG driver Khokan, 35, and its passenger Maherunnesa, 24, dead on the spot.
Three others injured were admitted to Narsingdi district hospital.
Of the injured, the condition of passenger Apu, 30, was critical.
Shibpur police station officer-in-charge Kazi Imam Hossain said police seized the bus.
Our correspondent in Bogra said a traffic accident that took place on Thursday left three dead on Friday.
A truck hit an auto-rickshaw, leaving six of its passenger injured, in Sherpur upazila, at about 8:30pm on Thursday.
Of the injured, two – auto driver Kajol Acchariya and passenger Sabbir – died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital while another passenger, Hasib, died on the way to Dhaka. The three injured were admitted to the SZRMCH.
