All hockey clubs in Dhaka, affiliated to the Bangladesh Hockey Federation, are expected to sit in a meeting on Wednesday in order to find a way out of the ongoing stalemate in the sport, said a BHF official on Monday. Five hockey clubs – Mohammedan SC, Mariner Youngs Club, Wari Club, Dhaka Wanderers Club and Bangladesh Sporting Club – continued to boycott the Dhaka Premier League, questioning the legitimacy of the present executive body of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation.
As a result of their boycott, the league could not be rolled since February last year.
Several attempts by sports administrators have failed to end the impasse, but BHF vice-president Abdur Rashid said he is now hopeful.
‘I spoke to the officials of boycotting clubs and they agreed to speak to 30 other clubs from premier, first and second divisions,’ said Rashid, also the general secretary of Usha KC.
‘They have no objection about playing in the other tournaments expect the league. If we can bring them to the discussion table, I am hopeful we can find a solution.’
