The Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday sought a clarification from FIFA whether national coach Lodewijk de Kruif will be eligible to stand in the dugout during Bangladesh’s next World Cup qualifying match against Jordan on Tuesday.
FIFA handed the Dutchman a two-match touchline ban and also fined him $7,642 for his misconduct during Bangladesh’s opening qualifying match against Kyrgyzstan at home in June.
Kruif already served his ban but is yet to pay the fine, which raised the confusion.
Kruif was asked to pay the fine within 30 days, but is unclear when the deadline will be over.
FIFA issued the letter on August 3 but it took BFF some time to receive the letter. BFF handed the FIFA letter to Kruif on August 17.
BFF official said they are unclear whether the deadline will be counted from the day of issuing the letter or from the day they handed it to Kruif, who has to pay the fine from his own pocket.
‘We asked FIFA today [Sunday] to confirm his [Kruif] availability in the next match against Jordan,’ BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag told New Age.
‘Until we get a reply from FIFA we cannot make further comment about it.’
