India, which hosts the forthcoming SA Games in Guwahati and Shillong in February 5–16, officially began the promotional campaign from Bangladesh on Tuesday.
Indian Olympic Association representative SM Bali and India’s sports secretary Rakesh Kumar held a briefing at the Bangladesh Olympic Association on Tuesday where they briefly explained their plan about the forthcoming meet.
The opening and closing ceremonies of the 12-day meet will take place in Guwahati respectively on February 5 and 16. India’s prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event.
A total of 4,300 athletes from eight nations will fight for the 228 gold medals, same number of silver medals and 308 bronze medals in 23 disciplines.
Hosts India will have the biggest of contingents of the meet with 550 athletes while Bangladesh will send a total of 409 male and female athletes for the event.
Guwahati will host the 16 disciplines while the other seven disciplines will take place in Shillong across 17 venues.
‘Ek prithibi ek krirangan, Krira holo shantir prangan’— a popular song by world famous singer Vupen Hazarika have been set as the theme song while the mascot of the Games is a baby Rhino named Tikhor.
In the programme, India declared that they are ready to offer a successful meet for the South Asian countries.
‘We have taken all the preparations to host a successful event and I believe we will display a colourful opening and closing ceremony,’ said SM Bali.
