The Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday increased the price of nomination papers of president post for the forthcoming election by 20 times to prevent a surge of candidates.
Unlike the other federations, the BFF elections are open to all Bangladeshis, irrespective of him being a councilor or not. BFF officials, a section of people can take the rule as an opportunity to gain some publicity, which prompted them to raise the price of nomination paper for president post from Tk 5,000 to Tk one lakh.
‘To prevent the unwanted people we have increased the price of nomination papers because the president post is not for all,’ BFF vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed told reporters after a three-hour long executive committee meeting at the BFF House on Sunday.
‘In the past, a number of people bought the nomination paper for president post just to gain some publicity. It is not acceptable.’
The BFF also increased the price of nomination papers for the other posts for April 30 elections.
With the new decision, a senior vice-president candidate will have to spend Tk 75,000 to buy the nomination paper while the cost of nomination paper for vice-president post is Tk 50,000.
Candidates will have to bear Tk 25,000 for competing in the post of 15 executive members.
The BFF election, which takes place in every four years, created a storm with rival groups joining a war of words.
The BFF in its meeting also approved the draft list of 134 delegates, who will vote for 21 posts.
The number of delegates was 122 in 2012 elections.
The final delegates list will be published on April 13.
