A total number of 55 candidates have submitted their nomination papers on Monday for 21 different posts of Bangladesh Football Federation election, scheduled to be held on April 30, said a BFF press release on Monday. The election is already heating up the local football arena as an alliance is formed against Kazi Salahuddin, the incumbent president. Known as the ‘Bachao Football’ the alliance, which claimed that Salahuddin has destroyed the country’s football and they are desperate to salvage it, is led by Sheikh Jamal president Manzur Kader.
One of the influential members of the alliance, Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul, former Bangladesh Cricket Board director and sports secretary of Bangladesh Awami League submitted nomination papers for two posts of senior vice-president and vice-president.
It is a comeback effort for Tutul, who despite being a former footballer, has been working as a cricket organiser after he was ousted from BCB.
He claimed that his panel can bring back the glory.
‘When I was a BCB director, we had started with Tk 33 lakh deficit but had Tk 78 crore as FDR before leaving BCB. I believe our team can take football to a good position if we are elected,’ said Tutul, who was seemingly behind the screen for the Salahuddin-led panel in last elections.
Along with Tutul, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan and Mominul Haque Saeed also submitted for two posts to make it a total number nomination papers as 58.
Of 58 nominations, four candidates – Kazi Salahuddin, Golam Rabbani Helal, Nurul Islam Nuru, Kamrul Ashraf Khan Poton — submitted nominations for the president post.
