Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club kept their amazing run in the Dhaka Premier League as they picked their fourth win from as many matches when they beat Brothers Union by seven wickets at Savar on Wednesday. Experienced Imtiaz Hossain got his second century of the tournament, an unbeaten 100 off 128 balls, which guided his team to 230-3 in 48.1 overs after Brothers were all-out for 229 from 50 overs.
The 31-year old Imtiaz, who made 100 against Cricket Coaching School in their first match, struck eight boundaries in his innings to overtake Mushfiqur Rahim as highest run-getter in the league with 273 runs so far.
Imtiaz held the innings together after his opening partner Rony Talukdar was out for a first ball duck before Doleshwar opened their account.
Raqibul Hassan made 32 and built a 47-run partnership before Chamara Silva (46) and Imtiaz added 82 runs in the third wicket stand to ease off the pressure.
National team all-rounder Nasir Hossain missed his half century for just two runs but made 101-run partnership with Imtiaz to take his side home and on top of the points table.
Earlier, Brothers openers Shahriar Nafees and Imrul Kayes got off to a solid start after they were sent into bat.
Nafees was out for 23 but Imrul (57) continued the good work with an 88-run partnership with his skipper Tushar Imran, who made 55 off 77 balls.
But the fall of Imrul at the score was 126 saw Brothers lose their tempo and could not launch over the base that was set during the halfway stage of the innings.
Only Zakir Hossain, wicket-keeper of Bangladesh Under-19 side of their last World Cup held in Bangladesh early in the year, could make some impact with his 29-run innings before he was run out.
Doleshwar bowlers put up combined effort, which coupled with the failure of Brothers lower order, restricted Gopibag side to a below-par score.
Off-spinner Robiul Islam Robi, pacer Al-Amin Hossain and Nasir got two wickets each.
It was the third defeat for Brothers in four matches.
