Siddikur Rahman warmed up for the forthcoming Rio Olympics in the worst possible way when the premier Bangladeshi golfer missed the cut in Thailand’s King’s Cup, now being held in Pattay.
Siddik, who finished the opening round in joint 19th place, stumbled to seven-over-par 77 in the second round on Friday to slip to 112th place, which ended his competition, as only 62 players managed the cut.
Siddik began the second round with a double bogey and could not recover from the poor start as he was unable to hit any birdie.
Five more bogeys in the remaining holes ended the $750,000 competition half-way through.
Siddik, who will carry Bangladesh’s flag in Olympics opening ceremony, will now fly for Rio de Janeiro on August 2.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Sattaya Supupramai battled against tough conditions to share the second round lead with Australia’s Terry Pilkadaris.
Sattaya was disappointed not to have taken the outright lead after he returned with an even-par 70 while Pilkadaris stormed up the leaderboard with a 67 at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club.
