Australia defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second Test on the fourth day in Chittagong to finish the two-Test series 1-1 in Chittagong on Thursday.
Off-spinner Nathan Lyon claimed 6-60 in the second innings to finish with a match haul of his career best 13 wickets as Australia bowled out Bangladesh for 157 runs in the second innings to set up and 86-run winning target for them.
The visitors reached the target without any serious hiccup with Glenn Maxwell hitting an unbeaten 25.
Defending a small total, Bangladesh had something to cherish with when Mustafizur Rahman dismissed first innings centurion David Warner for eight.
Taijul Islam and Sakib al Hasan and Taijul Islam took the wickets of Steve Smith (16 ) and Matt Renshaw ( 22) respectively to leave Australia 48-3.
But Handscomb and Maxwell ensured there was no dramatic slide in Australia innings, taking the visitors home with their unbroken 39-run stand.
Maxwell finished the game in style with a six off Nasir Hossain as Australia reached 87-3 close to the end of fourth day’s play.
Bangladesh did well in the morning to take the final wicket of Australia without allowing the visitors to add any run to their overnight score of 377-9.
Paceman Mustafizur Rahman took the final wicket of Lyon on the fifth ball of the day’s second over to return figures of 4-84.
The visitors, who trail the two-match series 1-0, secured a 72-run lead in response to Bangladesh’s first innings score of 305.
Bangladesh found it difficult to overcome the deficit as the Australian bowlers struck back immediately.
Pat Cummins beat Soumya Sarkar with his pace to induce an edge for Matt Renshaw at slip after the opener made only nine runs.
Tamim Iqbal hit two confident boundaries before he was perished for being too adventurous as Lyon dragged him out of his crease for stumping with the opener making 12.
Bangladesh were soon in trouble as Lyon struck again to remove Imrul Kayes, who was caught at cover by Glenn Maxwell for 15.
Right-handed Nasir was promoted at the number four to negotiate the threat of Lyon, who was doing carnage to the left-handers after picking up 7-94 runs.
Lyon completed his second 10-wicket haul in career forcing Sakib to edge to David Warner at slip for two.
Steve O’Keefe dismissed Nasir for five to leave Bangladesh 43-5 before Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman stemmed the rot.
The duo took Bangladesh through to lunch but Lyon struck soon after the resumption when he dismissed Sabbir for 24 to end their 54-run stand.
Cummins ended the resistance of Mushfiq, who scored 31 off 103 balls before edging the fast bowler to wicketkeeper Wade.
Coming at number eight Mominul Haque provided some sparks which ended once Cummins took a fine diving catch off Lyon at square leg.
Mominul departed for 29 as Lyon grabbed his second five-wicket haul in the match with the wicket.
Lyon claimed 6-60 in the second innings to finish with a match haul of his career best 13 wickets while Steve O’ Keefe and Pat Cummins claimed two wickets each.
