English-born Bangladeshi swimmer Junaina Ahmed continued her supremacy in the pool when she won five more gold medals on the second day of the 32nd National Age-group Swimming Championship at Mirpur on Monday. Junaina, who is representing Gopalganj Swimming Club in the championship, won gold medals in 100m and 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley in girl’s 15-17 age-group on the opening day.
She carried her form to the pool on the second day by producing four new national records out of five events that she took part at the Syed Nazrul Islam Swimming Complex.
Junaina first grabbed the 100m backstroke gold without creating any record but since then she came back strongly to win golds with records in all four events – 400m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 50 freestyle.
With Monday’s five gold medals, Junaina raised her gold tally to eight out of eight events she had taken part in two days.
Six more national records were created by other swimmers on the second day in different age-group events.
Mukti Khatun set up a record in 50m freestyle of Girls’ 13-14 age-group while Juthi Akter produced a record in the 200m freestyle in Girls’ 11-12 age-group.
Abu Bakkar created a record in the 200m backstroke in Boy’s 18-20 age-group while Nayan Ali created a record in the 200m butterfly in Boy’s 15-17 age-group.
A total of 70 events have been completed in two days and 15 records were made in different age-groups.
At the close of the second day, BKSP were topping medals table with 26 gold, 27 silver, and 35 bronze while Bangladesh Ansar took 21 gold, 13 silver and the same number of bronze and Golpalganj Swimming Club eight golds.
