The Bangladesh Sports Press Association nominated national team cricketer Liton Das, women’s football team forward Sabina Khatun, and recurve women’s team archer Nasrin Akther for Sportsperson of the Year 2022 during a press conference at the BOA auditorium on Thursday.
The awards ceremony, namely the Kool BSPA Awards, will be held at a city hotel on May 28 when the country’s oldest sports journalists’ organisation BSPA, will honour the 19 current and former athletes and sports organisers and organisations in 15 categories.
Liton (cricket) and Sabina (football) have also been nominated, along with sprinter Imranur Rahman (athletics), for the Popular Choice Awards.
Liton was also named as the Men’s cricketer of the year while Nigar Sultana Joty was named as the women’s cricketer of the year. Bashundhara Kings’ Brazilian forward Robson Azevedo da Silva was named as the men’s footballer of the year while Sabina was named as the in the women’s footballer of the year.
In the other categories, Nasrin Akter was named as the archer of the year while Ashraful Islam was named as the hockey player of the year, Imranur Rahman was named as the athlete of the year while national women’s team coach Golam Rabbani Choton was named as the coach of the year.
Table tennis player Nafis Iqbal and shuttler Sifat Ullah Galib were named for the Emerging Athlete of the Year awards. Kustia’s swimming coach, Amirul Islam, has been named for the Grassroots Level Organiser Award, while hurdler Sumita Rani for the Special Honorary Award.
The SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 winning team and the Physically Challenged Cricket team have been named as the Best Successful Teams, while Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation has been named the Best Sports Organisation.
