‘Ground Olympian’, the highest playing ground of the country on top of a mountain in Lama, Bandarban, was formally opened to local students on Friday.
Abdullah Abu Sayeed, founder of Biswa Sahitya Kendra, formally opened the ground that has been developed by Quantum Foundation.
The ground, situated about 1,000 feet above sea level, was carved out of a pineapple yard and will be the only such ground for about 400 students of nearby Quantum Shishu Kanon, a school, to engage in sporting activities.
That region of Lama had been hitherto bereft of such a playground and the children had to practise in rugged fields or even on the streets of the mountainous area.
The main purpose of the ground will be to build up the children of the region for the exigencies of national and international level sports.
